Short while ago google had changed their ranking algorithm,   in the hope of offering it’s search users better results, google engineers published blog post which indicated there were 11.8% organic search results will be affected, put it this way, google thinks about 12% of it’s search results are really bad and need to manipulated. Google started this change almost one year ago, and recently I see some of my ranks were lowered considerably, on the other hand almost all keywords promoted by contextual links are not affected, some of the keywords even ranked better than before, it’s safe to say that old way of link building is doomed.

Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a lot of marketing companies did and are doing the plain link building, they put your links on websites which only exist for holding links, the only updates on those websites are the new links, it’s safe to assume all of them are trash, we call these sites link spamming sites. New google algorithm most likely will punish these link spammers,  all the links on those websites will have the same fate.  

Let’s check out a few examples. It was quite some time ago, I needed to rank the keyword, Grade 30 Chain, it was old way of link building all the way, a lot of sites I used had too many links, worst yet, those sites had no content at all. This strategy worked in the beginning, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, the party was over when google updated it’s algorithm. So contextual link wins this time, what about future? It all boils down to content, so if you create great content, not only people will love to read your stuff, so do the search engines. As far as SEO concerned, creating quality content and article marketing is what we have to do to get great result. Remember content is king, you just need to create content, share the content with people, and put your keywords in the context you’re good to go, this strategy will prevail in short or long term.
