Short while ago google had changed their ranking algorithm,   in the name of providing more relevant search results for it’s users, on official google blog it is estimated 11.8% search results will be affected by this update, in another word, google thinks about 12% of it’s search results are really bad and need to manipulated. The update was initiated more than a year ago, maybe that’s why some of my ranks dropped out of first 10 pages, but almost all the ranks promoted by articles and blog posts were not affected, some of the keywords even ranked better than before, it’s almost a sure thing that plain link building loses all it’s attraction, at least in the eye of google.

Now what on earth is plain link building and how do people do it? a large percentage of SEO firms will do this,  they add your links to those linking websites without context, the content on those sites will never be updated, it’s safe to assume all of them are trash, the name of link spamming sites is justified. New google algorithm most likely will punish these link spammers,  all the links on those websites will have the same fate.  

Maybe a few examples will make it clear. It was quite some time ago, I started promote the keyword, Trucking Accessories, of course with old way of link building, a lot of sites I used had too many links, worst yet, those sites had no content at all. I would give credit where credit is due, this linking strategy worked, eventually the keyword could be found on first page, the party was over when google updated it’s algorithm. Here is another keyword, chain pullers, we put the link in relevant context, not too many plain links have been built, you can imagine how this keyword ranks. Old and outdated linking campaign lost to content linking, what’s next? In fact the only thing matters here is content, as long as you dole out high quality content, you will attract readers as well as search engines. How do you do it? Writing articles and building blogs, such as this interesting blog, baby stroller , I didn’t put too much effort into it from start, but I never stopped posting, now it can even rank the highly competitive keywords. Now you can see, quality article marketing is much better than plain link building. Remember content is king, you just need to create content, get people to enjoy and share your stuff, promote your business with the content, your effort will reward you handsomely in the end. Whatever you do, you will need persistence and patience, you shouldn’t expect things to improve overnight, be it your business or search rankings, now all we need to do is to share our love for creating and sharing great content and not to worry about the ranking all the time.
